Vinod Sharma is the chief technology officer at M-PESA Africa.
He leads the organisation’s technology strategy, with a focus on expanding and strengthening its fintech ecosystem across digital wallets, payments and financial services.
Before joining M-PESA Africa, Vinod served as chief technology officer at Ascend Group, where he led the group’s blockchain-focused subsidiary, Ascend Bit. He was responsible for shaping the technology strategy, building blockchain-based platforms and driving the development of digital asset solutions, including token platforms and Web3 applications.
Earlier, he held the role of chief technology officer at TrueMoney, a leading fintech business in Southeast Asia. In this position, he oversaw technology operations across multiple markets, including Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines and Vietnam, while leading large engineering teams and developing cloud-based platforms, analytics and AI-driven tools.
Vinod previously served as chief technology officer at Cassava SmarTech, part of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe. There, he led technology initiatives aimed at expanding access to digital and financial services across Africa, with a focus on inclusion and large-scale platform development.
His earlier career includes senior technology leadership roles at Mahindra Comviva, where he worked on mobile money and value-added services across Airtel Africa, as well as roles at Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies and vCustomer. He began his career in sales before transitioning into network engineering and software development, building a foundation in telecommunications and enterprise systems.
