Timothy Wahome is the chief technology officer at Onfon Mobile.
He leads the company’s technology strategy across multiple African markets, with responsibility for product development, platform innovation and digital solutions that support device financing and mobile access.
Since taking on the role, Timothy has overseen the rollout of technology solutions supporting Onfon Mobile’s device financing platforms across markets including Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique, Lesotho, Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Prior to this, Timothy spent nearly six years at Onfon Media, where he held senior technology roles. He served as head data engineer, leading the deployment of big data infrastructure and building data lakes and processing systems using tools such as Hadoop, Spark and Airflow. He also worked on automating machine learning models in production environments and advancing the use of emerging data technologies.
Earlier, Timothy served as a senior software developer, where he led the development of mobile lending platforms, payment solutions and real-time messaging systems. He worked across cloud-based architectures, enterprise systems and client-driven product development from design through to implementation.
Timothy holds a Master of data science and analytics from Strathmore University. He also completed the CIO Leadership Programme in organisational leadership at Strathmore Business School. He earned a bachelor of science in computer science from Chuka University and has a background in software engineering from the Kenya Institute of Software Development.
