Gilbert Mutai is the head of ICT at Car and General Group.
He has held the role since 2023 and leads the group’s technology strategy across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. His responsibilities include aligning IT strategy with business objectives, strengthening governance frameworks, overseeing infrastructure and enterprise systems, and driving digital transformation initiatives across the organisation.
Gilbert also serves as group ICT manager. In this capacity, he collaborates with executive leadership to shape IT strategy, evaluate technology investments and guide enterprise architecture.
Between 2019 and 2022, he served as project manager for SAP implementation across Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. He managed the full SAP ERP project lifecycle, working with implementation partners and internal teams to deliver defined project milestones, governance structures and executive reporting.
Before joining Car and General Group, Gilbert was ICT manager at Ainushamsi Energy. He was responsible for ICT strategy development, systems implementation, budgeting and IT project delivery, including the integration of SAP ERP with document management and human resource systems.
Earlier in his career, Gilbert worked at PwC as senior quality assurance lead. In this role, he supported clients in strengthening governance structures, risk management frameworks and IT controls.
He holds a master’s degree in information technology from The University of Nairobi. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Egerton University.
