Dr Mwirigi Kiula is the deputy vice chancellor for finance and administration at St Paul’s University, Kenya.
He began his professional journey in 2004 with community mobilisation and ICT capacity-building initiatives before joining Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), where he rose through a series of ICT leadership roles including head of research, consultancy and training, and later ICT director. In 2013, he championed the rollout of the Taifa brand of locally assembled laptops, reinforcing Kenya’s “buy Kenya, build Kenya” agenda. Between 2020 and 2025, he led ICT and innovation at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH), where he spearheaded digital transformation, established the Medical Innovation and Accelerator Hub, rolled out hospital-wide systems, and won recognition including chief technology officer of the year 2025 from Kenya’s Ministry of ICT and the Digital Economy. In June 2025, he was appointed deputy vice chancellor at St Paul’s University, where he now leads finance, administration, enterprise, ICT, HR and strategy implementation.
Mwirigi holds a PhD in leadership and governance, an MSc in ICT policy and regulation, and a BSc in computer science, all from JKUAT. He is a certified implementer and auditor in ISO standards (9001, 14001, 27001) and has international training in 5G, big data and cloud computing. He has published books on leadership and digital transformation, served on multiple university and national boards, and continues to mentor innovators and students across Africa.
