Michael Kwofie is the group chief information officer at I&M group.
In the last 20 years, he has built a career in digital transformation, cybersecurity, and technology risk management across Africa, working with major financial institutions in Ghana, Kenya, and across multiple regulated markets.
Michael's journey started in 2000 as a logistics & operations manager at Trade Conversion Limited, before moving into IT support and infrastructure roles at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Ghana Shippers Authority. He then served as information technology infrastructure manager at Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, followed by a training specialist role at IPMC Ghana.
Leveraging his deep infrastructure foundation, he shifted into cybersecurity when he joined Societe Generale 2009 and rose to country chief information security officer. He later joined Ecobank Transnational in 2011, where he progressed through senior security engineering, group head of IT Security, business information security officer, and group cyber security operations leadership over eight years. After leaving Ecobank, he joined Standard Chartered Bank Ghana as chief information security officer (CISO) and later chief information security risk officer (CISRO) for Western & Southern Africa Markets. His most recent role, before joining I&M Group, was group CISRO at Equity Group, a role he held since 2023.
Michael holds an MBA from the University of South Wales, a PGCert in computer security, information & computer Security from the University of Liverpool, and a BSc in computer science from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi.
He is also a certified information systems auditor (CISA), certified information security manager (CISM), certified information systems security professional (CISSP), and an ISO 27001 lead auditor.
